Officers of the Nigerian Police Force, Lagos State Command were involved in shootout with suspected robbers in Ikeja metropolis in Lagos state, the gunfire left four suspected robbers dead while two are in police custody.

Available information revealed the officers involved in the gun duel are those attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Ikeja, and the incident occurred at about 2 in the morning.

At the end of the gun duel, the police had killed four of the robbers and arrested two. They also recovered four AK47 rifles, loaded with magazines, two locally made pistols with six expended cartridges and 19 live cartridges.

The police also recovered a Fanagon mini-bus that was used by the criminals in the operations, the bus painted in Lagos State commercial colour.

One of the guns recovered from the robbers belonged to the Nigeria Police Force. The four guns were discovered in the operational bus of the bandits.

A police sergeant attached to the squad revealed that they received information that some armed robbers, operating in a Volkswagen fanagon bus, were planning to operate around Airport Hotel, Ikeja.

According to him, the officer in charge of SARS, SP Abba Kyari, sent two decoys. He said on approaching the suspects at Johnson Street, off Awolowo Road, Ikeja, the suspects sighted the policemen and opened fire and the detectives responded, killing four of the armed robbers.

One of the robbers managed to escape but the police arrested his gang mate, Saheed Mohammed, who was later helped them in arresting the escaped suspect.
